The North Island facility serves the US Navy's North Island Naval Air Station on Coronado Island. A portion of the electric output and all of the steam produced by the facility are sold to the Navy while the remaining electricity is sold to San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E) under a power purchase agreement that expires in 2019. The Naval Air Station occupies approximately 2,000 acres of Coronado Peninsula and includes an airfield, deep draft port facilities, and extensive aerospace manufacturing facilities.
Atlantic Power indirectly owns 100% of the Project. North Island achieved commercial operations in 1989.
The Project is managed and operated by Atlantic Power.
